Edgekeeper vs TradeZella

TradeZella is a general-purpose trading journal built around broker connections, a large analytics surface and a backtesting replay mode. Edgekeeper is narrower on purpose: it is a journal for people trading a funded or evaluation account, and the thing it does that a general journal does not is hold your firm's actual published rules and tell you how much room you have left before you place a trade.

Written by Edgekeeper, so read it as one side of an argument. Claims about TradeZella are structural rather than about price, and were last checked on 21 August 2026. Their own site is authoritative:tradezella.com

What TradeZella does better

  • Broker connections cover more platforms than a CSV workflow does, and they keep working without you remembering to export anything.
  • Backtesting and trade replay are real features with no equivalent in Edgekeeper. If replaying a chart bar by bar is part of how you practise, that is a genuine reason to choose them.
  • The analytics surface is broader. Edgekeeper deliberately computes fewer things and explains each one.

What Edgekeeper does differently

Your firm's rules, not a generic drawdown field

Edgekeeper ships the published rule sets for the prop firms it supports — the drawdown basis, where a trailing floor stops rising, whether the daily limit watches realized or live equity, when the trading day resets and in which timezone, the consistency share and the minimum trading days. Those are not notes in a text field. They are the rules the app evaluates your account against, and the same ones the public directory renders.

The warning arrives before the trade, not in the weekly stats

On the review step of the trade form, Edgekeeper tells you what this trade does to today's loss room and to the drawdown floor, and whether it breaks a rule you wrote down. It warns; it never blocks — the trade may already have happened, and a journal that refuses to record a real trade is a journal that lies.

A discipline score that is not a self-report

Rule adherence is checked against rules you wrote, weighted alongside risk consistency, process compliance and loss control. A component the app cannot compute is left out of the average rather than counted as a zero, because "no stops recorded" is not the same as "poor risk control".

The free tier is a working journal, not a demo

Unlimited trades, all the core analytics, one prop account carrying its firm's real rules, the position calculator, the rule engine and the weekly review — free, permanently. Pro adds depth and scale rather than unlocking the basics.

Choose TradeZella if
  • You want backtesting and bar-by-bar replay in the same tool as your journal.
  • You trade equities or options across several brokers and never want to touch an export file.
  • You are not trading a funded account, in which case most of what Edgekeeper is for does not apply to you.
Choose Edgekeeper if
  • You are inside an evaluation or a funded account and the number you actually need is how much you can lose today.
  • Your firm uses a trailing drawdown and you have never been completely sure where the floor is.
  • You want the rule check to happen before the order, not in a monthly report.

Questions

Can I move my trades from TradeZella to Edgekeeper?

Yes. Export your trades to CSV and import them — the importer reads most broker and journal exports directly, including one-row-per-fill files, and shows you a preview before anything is written. If a file will not parse, there is a fallback that reads it and validates every number back against the original.

Does Edgekeeper connect to my broker automatically?

No. Broker auto-sync is a paid third-party service per account per month, and adding it would either raise the price for everyone or eat the free tier. CSV import is the deliberate trade: it works with every broker rather than a list of them.

Which prop firms does Edgekeeper support?

The published rule sets it ships are listed in the prop-firm directory, with the date each was last verified and a link to the firm's own terms. Any firm can be tracked by entering the rules yourself — the presets are starting points, and every field stays editable.

Try it against your own history
